Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1(VMU-1) "The Watchdogs" |
||
|---|---|---|
| VMU-1 operates and maintains unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems to provide unmanned aerial reconnaissance support to the Marine Air Ground Task Force. The unit currently flies the Pioneer UAV and provides ground commanders with flexible, on-call intelligence support. These remotely piloted UAVs carry electro-optic and infrared cameras that provide high-quality imagery both day and night. The unit is the primary test bed for new UAVs in the Marine Corps, and its Marines are actively involved in the operational testing and evaluation of the next generation of UAVs. | ||
| The objectives of the CAX program are to exercise and train active duty and Reserve Fleet Marine Force units and Marine Air Ground Task Forces (MAGTFs) in command, control and coordination of combined arms in a maneuver-warfare live-fire environment. The CAX is the most realistic, live-fire training exercise in the Marine Corps. It provides the commanders the opportunity to employ all the weapons systems of the MAGTF in support of maneuver. Approximately 3,000-4,000 Marines and Sailors participate in each training cycle which uses the "building block" approach, starting with small-unit training and culminating in a final three-day exercise (FINEX). | ||
| A tenant organization stationed on 10th street at the western end of MAGTFTC’s mainside, VMU-1 is a subordinate squadron of Marine Aircraft Control Group 38, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, which is home-based at MCAS Miramar. | ||
| VMU-1 conducts flight operations from Outlying Field Seagle, located southwest of the Expeditionary Airfield. OLF Seagle is named in honor of Capt. Jeb F. Seagle, USMCR, who posthumously received the Navy Cross for gallantry during the Grenada invasion. VMU-1 Marines deploy frequently from the Combat Center and support operations and exercises throughout the world as well as in the United States. | ||
