The Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) is an integrated family of low-power, eye-safe, laser-based devices that simulate the causality-producing effects of direct-fire weapons. When a MILES transmitter is employed on a weapon, it fires a laser beam each time a blank is fired. When this laser beam strikes a laser detector worn by a Marine or mounted on a target, a buzzer or strobe light (on vehicle) is activated, indicating near miss, hit, or kill, depending on the point of impact. Each weapon's range, lethality and probability of kill percentage are all factors taken into consideration, making MILES a most realistic, objective training tool.
